The report was published in the last quarter of 2019 based on the consumer survey conducted about the last remodeling project the respondents undertook. The report shows that new vinyl windows achieved a “joy score” of 9.6.
Why Homeowners Choose Window Replacement
The top two reasons why the respondents embarked on the project were (1) to improve energy efficiency and (2) to upgrade worn-out surfaces, finishes, and materials. 64% of the homeowners also reported that they have a greater desire to be home after completing the project. 63% said that they have an increased sense of enjoyment when they are at home and 80% said that they feel a major sense of accomplishment when they think of the project.
Potential Return on Investment
The study also looked into the cost recovery of a new windows project in resale value. According to NARI estimates, a new window vinyl project will cost an average of $22,500 and will increase the resale value by an average of $16,000 according to REALTORS estimate.
Likewise, other exterior home projects made it in the report. A new vinyl siding project has a joy score of 9.3, while new roofing has a joy score of 9.5.
