Choosing a Vinyl Siding Cleaner: What to Consider

One of the best things about vinyl siding is that it is easy to maintain, usually needing just regular cleaning to stay attractive. You do, however, need a good siding cleaner to make sure you get the job done right. There will be a lot of options available to you, but don’t worry! Siding and window replacement expert Kroll Construction is here to help simplify the selection process for you.

Choosing a Vinyl Siding Cleaner: What to Consider

Here’s what you should consider when choosing a vinyl siding cleaner:

  1. Ingredients – Look for a siding wash that contains inorganic solvents (hydrogen peroxide, water) or water-soluble surfactants (alkyl sulfates) as these ingredients won’t harm or react to the polyvinyl chloride content of your vinyl siding.

Quick Tip

Don’t spot-clean vinyl siding using liquid grease removers, furniture polishes and nail polish removers as these contain organic solvents that can damage the siding material, leaving dark patches, streaks and color loss.

  1. Mold/Mildew Removal – if you have landscaping close to your replacement windows and siding, it is at high risk of developing mold and mildew so your cleaner of choice should contain fungicides, like oxygenated bleach or ammonium chloride, to keep growth at bay.

  1. Formula – Vinyl siding cleaners are available in ready-to-use formulas or as concentrates. Either is fine so choose based on what will be more convenient for you. Concentrated products, however, are generally more economical to choose.
